Louis Vega Trevino’s painting reflects a deep understanding of historical precedents. Without any derivative step, he has built upon a number of important, painterly languages to evolve a style that is instantly recognizable as uniquely his own. Photographs by Juliana Kasumu From Moussor to Tignon is a collection of works completed by Juliana Kasumu during her summer residency with the Olaju Art Group in New Orleans, LA. Through this photo-essay, she explores the evolution of the headwrap worn by women of color as a means for cultural reclamation during the 18th century. Kasumu’s focus is the cultural exchange between Creoles in Louisiana and signares in Senegal, who wore this style as a form of social protest against oppressive tactics from colonial powers. Musical Bridges’ Art Gallery hosted its second opening of the 17th season on Friday, February 13th.  The opening celebrated “Unfolding Dimensions,” the first combined exhibit of artists Sandy Whitby and Lauren Browning. Musical Bridges’ Art Gallery held its closing reception of Artist Tania Rachytskaya’s “Dream Worlds” exhibit on Friday, July 11th.  “Dream Worlds,” was the first US exhibit of internationally renowned batik, silk painter and shibori artist Tania Rachytskata and was featured in the Musical Bridges’ Art Gallery since April 5th.  The exhibit drew a large following of art lovers over the last 3 months and many people now have her artwork in their very own home.
