Marketing Manager Kim Adamski called the MBAW office after hearing a radio segment about the Kids to Concerts and other MBAW programs. Ms. Adamski recruited 12 of her staff members to volunteer at the Kids’ World Music Festival on February 25th.  BJ’s corporate office will be writing a check which will be matched by MBAW’s generous Board of Directors-as well as providing food for all of the festival...

MBAW Board of Directors Initiates $25,000 Matching Grant

The Musical Bridges Board of Directors has generously donated $25,000, matching funds $1 for $1 toward the Kids’ World Music Initiative!  MBAW created the fundraiser challenge to help raise $50,000 for the Kids’ World Music Initiative scheduled for the spring of 2014. All of the money raised will help introduce 27,000 children from San Antonio to cultures from Africa, Spain, Russia, Syria, India and Cuba through beautiful music, bright folk costumes and educational curriculum.  The artists featured in the festival are world-class musicians and dancers, coming from the most prestigious international festivals to title one schools...

When Gabriel Zertuche, Artistic Director of Ballet San Antonio called MBAW Vice President Suhail Arastu and asked if he would consider performing in “The Nutcracker” this year, Suhail told him that he was dragged to that ballet every year as a child!  Zertuche said that it’s much more fun when you’re in it, so he agreed to join the cast. Exciting news! After a comprehensive selection process we would like to welcome Executive Administrative Assistant Diana Tatu to our fabulous Musical Bridges family! For the first time in our organization’s existence we created a job search, advertising for the position on various sites and received 75 applications. After narrowing to six finalists, the Executive Committee members held interviews at the MBAW office. Three finalists were then selected for a final interview with MBAW Board President Dr. Miller. The Flying Balalaika Brothers from Austin visited 8 schools (Eisenhower Middle School, Garcia Middle School, Science and Technology Charter School, Vestal Elementary School, Indian Creek Elementary School, Hidden Cove School, Krueger Middle School, and Longfellow Middle School) over three days in November and introduced kids to Russian culture through music, colorful folk costumes and ethnic instruments. STIM, TEKS and STEM focused curriculum was presented during the concert. 7500 kids enjoyed fiery performances and learned some Russian expressions in the process.
