Musical Bridges Around the World
Artist Bio & Statement:
Russian-born Mark Cheikhet is a professional concert violinist and self-taught painter, who splits his time between Russia and the United States. Primarily abstract, Cheikhet’s paintings seek to convey the fusion of visual and musical expression.
Art critic Dan Goddard has written, “With a palette that conjures Marc Chagall, Cheikhet creates abstract paintings of shimmering colors and vibrating bands of white that he considers part of his struggle for perfection in expression…Working with a palette knife and brush, he creates patterns and textures that evoke crashing chords and invisible waves of sound.” (Glasstire, Feb 2, 2012)
Says Chekheit, “When I play music I am trying to interpret something. It's the same with art. I try to bring harmony out of chaos. I try to express my feelings, to paint the emotions where the music comes from."
