Yvonne Freckmann

Artistic Liaison

Yvonne Freckmann translates the soundscape and experience of life into her music. For her, composing is the ideal way to explore ideas and to work with others to create experiences that are meaningful and engage the mind.

Yvonne grew up in a family of music lovers in Germany and South Texas playing piano, clarinet, and accordion. As a teenager she studied with Dr. Anya Grokhovski and performed in MBAW’s Kids to Concert series with her sister Vanessa, dressed in costumes as Wolfgang and Nannerl to celebrate Mozart’s 250th birthday. She studied piano and composition at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, followed by a master’s degree in composition at the University of Louisville on a Bomhard Fellowship. One of her dreams was to win a Fulbright Grant, which was her ticket to study in the Netherlands. Since 2014, Yvonne earned a second master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, and lived there four years, and currently lives in sunny Madrid, Spain. Her music has been performed in over a dozen U.S. states and several countries, among them the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic, Israel, and Malaysia. Her magnum opus, “Requiem for the Victims of a Pandemic,” for SATB choir, two soloists, and orchestra was premiered last year by a consortium of choirs in Texas (Trinity U & UIW), and in Ohio.

Yvonne maintains strong ties with her musician friends in the States, and organizations that have commissioned her work such as SOLI Chamber Ensemble and Musical Bridges Around the World. She’s a proud and active member of Composers Alliance San Antonio (CASA).

Yvonne joined the MBAW team as Artistic Liaison in September 2023
