Kids to Concerts Russia: Barynya

Musical Bridges Around the World is proud to report another successful segment of Kids to Concerts during the 18th season at no charge to the schools visited! On February 18-19, 2016 Barynya visited five San Antonio Elementary schools: Bulverde Creek, Herff, Riverside Park, Northern Hills and Raba.

MBAW’s interactive and exciting program incorporated TEKS and STEM curriculum-teaching the culture and geography of Russia & Ukraine through music and dance.About 4,000 children learned about rhythm & sound, dance, history, ethnic instruments, traditional clothing and Russian language during the 40 minute program.

Each program included an interactive dance where students were selected to join the performers on stage and learn traditional dance steps! The program concluded with a Q & A as well. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to interact with the artists and ask questions. The students were so excited to ask questions and learn more about Russia.

Teachers have been spreading the word with their colleagues about Kids to Concerts. Bulverde Creek teacher emailed her peers saying, “Good afternoon! I just wanted to let you know about a fantastic performance opportunity that could be happening at your school this month! Musical Bridges brought a Russian dance group to our school a few weeks ago, and the performance was PHENOMINAL! The kids loved it, and they were really educational as well—and free! I highly recommend you have them come to perform.”

MBAW would like to thank all of its generous sponsors for this program including: San Antonio City Council Project Funds, the Texas Commission on the Arts, The Brown Foundation, Inc., HEB, Kronkosky Charitable Foundation, Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, Rackspace, San Antonio Area Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
