Gold Medalist of The Gurwitz 2020 International Piano Competition, pianist Jiale Li from China returns for the first time since his victory. Romantic virtuoso masterworks by Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff will set the tone for a spectacular 26th concert season of Russell Hill Rogers Musical Evenings at San Fernando Cathedral !

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Jiale Li, piano | China

Pianist Jiale Li was born in Huludao, Liaoning Province, China. In 2020, Li won the gold medal at the first Gurwitz International Piano Competition. The following year, he graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a DMA under the guidance of Ms. Nelita True and Ms. Natalya Antonova. Previously during his studies, Li won the first prize in the Eastman Concerto Competition and performed Liszt’s First Piano Concerto in Eb major with the Eastman Philharmonic Orchestra. Also, as a winner of the Lowry Award Auditions at Eastman, Li represented the Eastman in a recital, his Carnegie Hall debut, in the Weill Recital Hall in 2018.

Li completed his undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School with Mr. Seymour Lipkin, and participated in several summer courses such as the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Los Angeles Music Festival, and the ANME Asian New Music Festival.

Since the beginning of his studies at Shenyang Conservatory of Music middle school and Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing during high school, Li has won numerous piano competitions and awards for his playing, including the first prize at the “Conservatory Cup” Piano Competition; first prize and the best performance of Schubert’s works at the Yamaha Award Competition; third place at the 5th International Competition of Young Pianists “A Step Towards Mastery” in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Since winning the Gurwitz, Li has been presenting solo, duo piano (with Wanting Zhao) and chamber music concerts, both online and in-person, including venues in Beijing, Tangshan and Dalian, China.

How do I get a ticket?

What do I show at the door/check-in?
To help our attendants, please have your ticket ready when you get there. Attendants will be ready to scan the QR code located on your ticket (print, email, or app). If you lose your ticket, please tell the attendant your first and last name.

What if I forget to register?
An attendant at the door can help you register quickly and easily. We do not turn away guests if space is available.

What are the current health protocols I need to follow?
Masks/social distancing is not currently required.

How do I get to the San Fernando Cathedral? Where do I park?
The San Fernando Cathedral lies at the center of downtown San Antonio at 115 Main Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205. While there is no dedicated parking for the Cathedral, there are many close parking options. City Paystations and meters are FREE on Sundays, and you can find more info and paid garage/lot options on our website here. Note that there are three (3) main entrances to the Cathedral: two (2) front (east) entrances off Main Plaza and one (1) ADA-accessible side entrance on the left (south) Cathedral side.

Can I take pictures or video?
No flash photography. We would love for you to capture and share your experience, but we do ask that you be conscientious of others and the artists during the performance so as not to disrupt the event.
