Get ready for the San Antonio red carpet premiere of the “The Quilt: A Living History of African American Music”. Starring Cynthia Freeman Gibbs and Lauren Anya Jwahir Hunter with an ensemble cast of musicians (many from San Antonio!), this educational documentary explores the music genres born and formed by African American history and culture and how music of the past connects with that of the present, just like the layers of a quilt.
Enjoy bites and sangria by Carmens de la Calle, a custom quilt by the African American Quilt Circle of San Antonio, and a Q&A with the cast and crew. Event is also sponsored in part by H-E-B and partner Carver Community Cultural Center.

Once ticket registration fills up, all others will be subject to join a waitlist. MBAW will check in with ticket holders multiple times leading up to the event to see if they are still coming, and any cancellations will open registration to the waitlisted.
Because it is a free event, MBAW will open seating to anyone still on the waitlist (and any walk-ins) at 1:30 PM, 30 minutes before the movie begins. Seating is unassigned but VIP spots may be roped off. Walk-ins must write their information down on sign-in sheet.
Is parking free? Where do I park?
Yes, please see Location & Parking section above.
What do I bring for check-in?
If you got a ticket, present your Eventbrite ticket QR code(s), one for each attendee. If you are on the waitlist or a walk-in, just have your name ready to give to the attendant.
Are food & drinks allowed?
Food & drinks are only allowed in the lobby, not the Jo Long Theater itself. Free bites and refreshments will be available before and after the screening.
Is this the only public screening of the film? Can I see it elsewhere?
Currently, this is the only full public screening of the film in San Antonio at this time. The film is also making its rounds of festivals across the country, and educational showings with activities for children are being scheduled in San Antonio in partnership with the San Antonio Library. Please check back at mbaw.org/quilt for more information as it develops.
Is the location ADA/handicap-accessible?
Yes, there are two ramps on either side of the building leading into the breezeway area between the lobby and theater. See “Location & Parking” section above for more details.
