Musical Evenings at San Fernando Cathedral

115 Main Plaza, in the oldest active Catholic cathedral in the nation, in the heart of downtown San Antonio

This series was designed after the European model of free concerts in historic destinations like Venice, Florence, and Amsterdam. Our Sunday evening concerts entice listeners to explore the location of several buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest active Catholic cathedral in the U.S., is the host to world-class musicians on select Sundays.

All listeners are invited to meet the artists at the catered dessert reception following every concert.

April 12, 2015: Turks, Tailors & Uncle Moses!

The New York City based all-women’s Metropolitan Klezmer sextet will take us back to the spirited folk songs of a soulful Jewish tradition.

October 5, 2014 – Viva la Cuba

Featuring a sizzling virtuoso quintet with a potpourri of Popurrí – the Habaneros are direct from Havana and will dazzle you with hot Latin American and Western classics.

November 9, 2014: Under the Tuscan Sun

“Oozing with charisma,” Van Cliburn competition favorite – Italian pianist Alessandro Deljavan and Houston Grand Opera soprano Pureum Jo will take you on an enchanting sojourn through Old Europe.

February 1, 2015: Strauss & Golden Greece

As a part of the city-wide Strauss Festival, the New York based Canellakis-Brown Duo, “a pair of adventurous young talents” will present a sonata for cello & piano along with their own Greek-flavored compositions.

March 8, 2015: Pastime with Good Company

Serbian born virtuoso lutenist Slobodan Vujisic and the early music ensemble Austin Troubadours in period costumes with authentic instruments perform dance and songs of Medieval and Renaissance Europe.
