The Gurwitz International Piano Competition is made free and open to the public (discluding Awards Brunch) with event registration required to attend. This registration process is not currently open, please check back later for a set announcement date.

Grand Opening Jury Showcase

Performances by an all-star jury panel will officially start off the Gurwitz 2024 International Piano Competition.

Round I, Day 1 | Morning Session (10 AM – 1 PM)

Three of the Twelve Contestants each perform a 50-minute recital with 10-minute breaks between performances.

Round I, Day 1 | Evening Session (4 PM – 7 PM)

Three of the Twelve Contestants each perform a 50-minute recital with 10-minute breaks between performances.

Round I, Day 2 | Evening Session (4 PM – 7 PM)

6 semifinalists are chosen to advance to the next round and the “Junior Jury Award” winner is selected.

Round II | Morning Session (10 AM – 1 PM)

Three of the Six Semifinalists perform a 50-minute recital featuring work(s) from composer(s) of Latin or Spanish origin. 10-minute breaks between performances.

Round II | Evening Session (4 PM – 7 PM)

Three of the Six Semifinalists perform a 50-minute recital featuring work(s) from composer(s) of Latin or Spanish origin. 10-minute breaks between performances.

Three Finalists are chosen to advance and the winner of the “Best Performance of a Work by a Latin or Spanish Composer” is selected.

Thursday 1 February 2024, 7 PM

Round III

Jo Long Theatre, Carver Community Cultural Center
The three Finalists perform a commissioned chamber music work by San Antonio composer Dr. Aaron Prado with acclaimed guest artists.

Winner of the “Audience Favorite Award” is selected.

Saturday 3 February 2024, 7 PM

Round IV

H-E-B Performance Hall, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts

The three Finalists perform with the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Orchestra artistic director Scott Yoo, renowned violinist and host of the PBS TV series “Now Hear This”.

Winners of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists are selected.

Sunday 4 February 2024, 10 – 11 AM

Gurwitz Awards Brunch (Paid Event)

Medals and Awards are presented along with a short performance by the three Gurwitz 2024 Medalists.
