MBAW Vice President Suhail Arastu takes the stage in “The Nutcracker!”

When Gabriel Zertuche, Artistic Director of Ballet San Antonio called MBAW Vice President Suhail Arastu and asked if he would consider performing in “The Nutcracker” this year, Suhail told him that he was dragged to that ballet every year as a child!  Zertuche said that it’s much more fun when you’re in it, so he agreed to join the cast. Suhail says it’s proven true-he’s come to know a great cast through their rehearsals and first four performances.  He said the Ford/Powell/Carson architect Chris Carson recently returned from a trip to Moscow and compared Friday night’s opening performance to the […]

In San Fernando, Thunder and Song

From Incident and Light, October 28, 2013 An oddly bifurcated program, worthily performed, opened the 2013-14 season of the concert series with the very long name. OK. Take a deep breath. Here it is: The Musical Bridges Around the World Judy and Jefferson Crabb Musical Evenings at San Fernando Cathedral. The pianist Mei Rui was on her own for the first half, comprising two towering, often thundering works from the 19th century, Franz Liszt’s Sonata in B Minor and Ferruccio Dante Michelangelo Benvenuto Busoni’s (speaking of long names) transcription of the Chaconne from JS Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D […]
