Rooted in American Modernism, Tim Beard’s classically abstract paintings attest to the enduring value of observation, intuition and the physical act of painting as a means of refining and expressing the inner workings of an active mind. Beard earned a BFA from the Santa Barbara Art Institute and MFA from the University of Maryland, College Park. A longtime resident of the Washington, DC area, Beard moved to San Antonio 10 years ago where he continues to paint and exhibit his artwork.
Conan Chadbourne’s intricate, layered, drawing-based images explore the intersection of mathematics and the organic world, science and mysticism, ancient and modern. Often based on mathematic or scientific phenomena, Chadbourne creates hand-crafted elements that are digitally composited to create enigmatic images “motivated by a fascination with the occurrence of mathematical or scientific imagery in traditional art forms, and the frequently mystical or cosmological significance that can often be attributed to such imagery.” Chadbourne holds a BA in Mathematics and Physics from New York University and has worked in experimental physics research, digital imaging and printing, graphic design, and documentary film production. His artwork has been exhibited throughout Texas as well as at national and international conferences on mathematics and the arts.
