Appearing on Main Stage

during Tchaikovsky Birthday Bash, May 8, 2011

and for Kids to Concerts the following week

Kalinka Russian folk duo features Balalaika virtuoso Sergey Vashchenko and Bayan (button accordion) master Vladimir Kaliazine. Their charm and virtuosity are evident in playing the unique instrumental combination of sounds that reflect Old World melodies and language.

After performing throughout Russia and Europe, the duo moved to the United States to settle in Austin TX. The pair have been performing together for about 35 years, including 3 years in Spain and, more recently, 10 years based in Texas. Kalinka’s repertoire includes spectacular classical and traditional Russian works, as well as international Russian and Eastern European favorites.
