We are happy to announce that our CEO and Artistic Director Anya Grokhovski, DMA accepted the 2021 International Leadership Award presented by the San Antonio Council of Visitors at their 2021 Annual Citizen Diplomacy Celebration this past Tuesday. This award highlights Anya’s dedication and contributions to citizen diplomacy in the community. The staff and board of Musical Bridges couldn’t agree more about the tremendous impact Anya has made in the fruition, cultivation, and success of cross-cultural arts programming, partnerships, and collaborations that create a mutual understanding between people of the United States and other nations around the world.

The event also featured some familiar musical faces with performances by Ethan Wickman, DMA and Peter Breithaupt of the Viatorum ensemble, who will coincidentally be performing on Sunday 6 February 2022 for our D’s on Keys fundraising gala at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Wickman, as you might recall, was also the composer of our Round III commissioned piece, Murmurs from the Exile, for The Gurwitz 2020 International Piano Competition.

The Council also announced during the event their 2021 recipient of the Irma Reyes Citizen Diplomacy Scholarship, established to honor the work, support, and dedication of Ms. Irma Reyes to SACIV for over 30 years and aimed to support the education of students pursuing international-related degrees at local universities.

Thank you to the San Antonio Council of Visitors, the City of San Antonio Global Engagement Office, and many others who joined for such a marvelous celebration of diplomacy and triumph!

If you are inspired to continue the vision of Anya and Musical Bridges Around the World towards a world where fine arts are accessible to all, our common humanity is recognized, cultural diversity is celebrated, and all are united in peace, please consider supporting us through a donation or through many other ways to give.
