Celia Thomson was born and raised in New York’s Hudson Valley. After graduating high school, she spent a year in Asuncion, Paraguay, learning Spanish and immersing herself in the local culture. Always drawn to music, she started playing the violin at age 5 and has played with orchestras and ensembles in New York, Pennsylvania, Paraguay and Texas, most recently as a first violinist with the UTSA Orchestra.
After moving from New York to Houston in 2016, Celia lived and worked as a full-time volunteer at Casa Juan Diego, a shelter for immigrants and refugees, for a year. She transferred to San Antonio in 2019 and is currently studying at UTSA for a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Communications major and a Music minor. In 2020 she was awarded both the Gilman Scholarship and the Stumberg Endowed Scholarship. A volunteer opportunity with the Gurwitz Piano Competition introduced her to Musical Bridges, and she resonated with their mission and vision. Celia interned with Musical Bridges as an Administrative Assistant during the Fall 2020 semester and is excited to continue working with them.
